NGI Student Paper Contest


On-line Entry Form must be submitted by April 27, 2009!


Any graduate student working on NGI-funded research at MSU, USM, FSU, LSU or DISL is invited to enter.

The student must be registered and in attendance for the NGI conference to be held on May 20-21, 2009 in Mobile, AL, and have conducted the reported NGI-funded research. Please go here for CONFERENCE REGISTRATION.

Students may submit only one paper. Paper contestants will present their paper at the NGI conference. See Conference Agenda for timelines relating to paper sessions.

To enter the Student Paper Contest, please use this ON-LINE ENTRY FORM (check the student contest box on the form).

  • FORMAT: All papers submitted should be in good technical report format and should include graphics and glossy photographs. Entry must be submitted in English.
  • Only single author papers will be considered.
  • Papers will be judged on their technical content. Paper presentation will not be part of the judging process.
  • Papers should be at least 2,000 words and not more than 4,000 words. They can contain material from the student’s Masters or Ph.D. thesis but the entire thesis is not acceptable.
  • The paper must not have been published.
  • Papers must be confined to topics related to NGI projects and of relevance to Northern Gulf issues (the "so what" factor)

Please use the on-line form to enter. If a contestant does not turn in her/his title and contest declaration by the deadline, they will be ineligible for the contest.
