NGI's Luke Thompson Receives NOAA Research Funding Award

March 20, 2023

ORION | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Luke Thompson's group received a $50,000 allocation from the NOAA Research and Development High Performance Computing Systems (RDHPCS) for cloud computing on NOAA's Parallel Works cloud system. With this computing support from RDHPCS, the NGI/NOAA team will have the capability to develop novel algorithms and workflows for taxonomic classification of omics data from the ocean, specifically "shotgun" DNA sequence data (metagenomes), and reveal long-term spatial biodiversity patterns in hundreds of ocean environmental DNA (eDNA) samples, including from key NOAA collaborations Bio-GO-SHIP and the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON).
